Here is the Irish web series trying to take on Tom Hanks at major awards

They are are also up against the makers of Mad Men but need one million votes to be in with a chance of taking home the prize.

AN IRISH COMPANY is taking on the makers of Mad Men and Tom Hanks in major online awards, the Webbys.

Cuckoo, an online drama that was originally part of RTÉ’s Storyland series, saw off thousands of international competitors and has been nominated for Best Online Drama.

The Zanzibar Films made show is up against four others, including Tom Hanks’ ‘Electric City’, AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’, Pereira and O’Dell’s ‘The Beauty Inside’ and Chasing the Hill’s ‘Chasing The Hill’ for the coveted prize.

The winner will be chosen by a judging panel that includes the likes of David Bowie, Richard Branson, Darren Aronofsky, Arianna Huffington, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, Mozilla CEO Mitchell Baker and Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom.

Alongside the official Webbys, there will also be a second set of winners voted for by the general public – the Webby People’s Voice Awards. As the underdog, the makers of Cuckoo are appealing to people to vote for them here.

Although they are coming third, Marie Caffrey producer of the online drama told TheJournal.ie that they need all the votes they can get:

We’re trying our best to get a million more votes because we’d need at least that amount to beat Tom Hanks and the makers of Mad Men.
