A JOB CREATION initiative set up to encourage employers to take on new staff has helped 150 people commence employment just one month after launching.
A total of 589 companies have already pledged more than 2,500 jobs across a wide range of sectors, including software design, engineering and pharmaceuticals.
The volunteer, not-for-profit has quickly turned the pledges into actual jobs with 150 people already back in employment, filling positions pledged on Hireland.ie.
The participating companies who have already hired include ely Winebar, Hauste Group, Spirit Motor Group, Red Tree Consulting, Byrne Curtin Kelly and Murex Advanced Technologies.
Hireland has already received over half the target of 5,000 pledges it aims to gather over the next five months, said co-founder Lucy Masterson.
We started this initiative to help generate positivity…and there is no better way to beat the doom and gloom than by helping to put people in jobs.
Masterson argues that by recruiting more people, a company will experience immediate and direct benefits.
Separate from any Government jobs plan, Hireland was set up following a “kitchen table conversation” between a group of friends who had lost loved ones to emigration.
While recognising the need for businesses to cut costs, Hireland founders were convinced that entrepreneurs had an essential role to play in kick-starting the economy by hiring skilled workers.
Since then, students and other people from business, marketing and media have joined the founding members to push the idea.
On average, companies have pledged between one and five jobs. However, CPL has pledged 200 jobs in technical support and bookmakers Paddy Power has pledged a further 100 positions.
Avon has pledged 70 jobs, while VersionOne software has promised 90. HomeInstead also pledged 50 jobs.
Although the majority (1,882) of the jobs are located in Dublin, the pledges are not confined to the capital. A total of 24 counties are represented, with 85 jobs pledged in Kildare, 72 in Mayo and 105 in Galway.
