Gardaí arrest man over fatal Fermanagh hit-and-run

The PSNI are continuing to appeal for information from anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around the time of the incident in the Tullychurry Road area.

POLICE IN ENNISKILLEN say a man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Fermanagh at the weekend.

The PSNI are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a man, who has been named as Pat John McCafferty (49), on the Tullychurry Road area of Leggs, Belleek, in the early hours of Sunday 5 January.

McCafferty was from the local area. Police said that the blue Ford Focus believed to have been involved in the incident has been recovered and police are continuing to liaise with their colleagues in An Garda Siochána in relation to this investigation.

Gardaí arrested a 40-year-old male on Sunday and he has since been released pending report to the DPP in the Republic of Ireland.

The PSNI said they intend to pursue a prosecution in relation to the death through the courts in Northern Ireland.

Police are continuing to appeal for any information following the incident, which occurred at approximately 2.50am.

Anyone who was in the Tullychurry Road and/or Boa Island Road area before or after this time and saw the blue Ford Focus car, or any suspicious activity, is asked to contact police in Enniskillen on 0845 600 8000
