25 new jobs on the way as HMV opens Galway city store

The new outlet brings the number of HMV stores around the country to six.

A NEW HMV store is set to open in Galway city centre, the music retailer’s parent company Hilco Capital has confirmed.

25 jobs will be created at the 4,855 square foot outlet — which will be located at units 3 & 4 Edward Square. An opening date is yet to be confirmed.

Today’s announcement brings the total number of HMV stores in Ireland to six, since the brand reappeared here last year. Hilco acquired HMV from its administrators last spring, in a deal worth an estimated €59 million.

Stores have since opened at Henry Street, Dundrum and Liffey Valley in Dublin; Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick, while the new store on Dublin’s Grafton Street is set to open for business in the coming weeks.

The HMV brand also began appearing in Xtra-vision outlets around the country last year, after Hilco also acquired the DVD rental chain.

According to CEO of Hilco Ireland Larry Howard:

We were delighted with the response to the integrated Xtra-vision and HMV outlet, which we launched in Galway Shopping Centre back in October of last year and felt that it was time to introduce a stand alone HMV store to the city.
