NEW FIGURES PUBLISHED by the Department of the Environment have shown that there are now more than 1,000 homeless children in Ireland.
The data for March looks at the number of homeless people both in Dublin and around the rest of the country.
In total it was found that there is 3,081 homeless people across Ireland.
There are 2,059 homeless people in Dublin – more than across the rest of the country.
Of these, 1,488 are adults with no dependants. A total of 411 family units are also homeless.
These family units are made up of 571 adults and 911 dependants.
Throughout the rest of the country there is 1,022 homeless people, of which 60 are family units with a total of 143 children.
Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly has asked that local authorities set aside half of their new housing allocations for homeless families.
Changing picture
This follows news last month that the number of homeless people sleeping rough in Dublin had seen its biggest decrease ever.
The last rough sleeper count carried out by officials from the Dublin Region Homeless Executive found 105 people sleeping rough on the night of 14 April. A decrease of 38% from November 2014 when 168 people were found sleeping rough.

The only time motorcycling makes the news is when there are bad accidents or deaths. It is strange anything GAA gets into the news but motorcycling does not until there is an accident. The North West 200 at one stage was getting quarter of a million people at it, you wouldn’t get that on RTE as many go to it from here, Britain and the rest of the world but motorcycling is seen as a sport not worthy to be reported unless there are accidents at it?

I have made complaint to Rte sports and elsewhere regarding racing rally cars and motorcycle after waiting over the twenty working days to reply to me their response was my complaint could not be accepted as a complaint and instead they forwarded it to their feedback . Their response was Rte don’t have the money for this sport I would urge everyone to make a compliant to complaints@rte.ie

Secondly well said Alan you can be guaranteed there was over 100k spectators at yesterday’s races more than any other sporting event which took place in either Ireland or the UK but not one Irish media outlet will cover it and the only reason this article is on here is sadly because a spectator was involved if it was just the riders nobody would give a crap, we have Irish riders taking part in top level motorcycling events all over the world and they get no coverage from our home media, shame on our sports media!

I get the feeling that guys at RTE think anyone on a bike is a thug.Even when the do articles on charity bike runs ect it’s almost always as if people should be shocked to see bikers doing anything good.
As for road racing I don’t think it even enters their minds.Even when they did give it a look in on RPM motor sport it was always on in the middle of the night.In fact their coverage of all motor sports sucks.
very true Michael as sad as an accident is more people die riding horses than racing bikes, nw200 is the biggest attended sporting event on this island.

Motorcycle road racing down country roads and between stone walls is addictive, perhaps it’s the danger that hooks both participants and spectators. In comparison, circuit racing is very safe, but for softies. But if we remove all the voluntary risk from life, those of us who need a bit of excitement will just die slowly from obesity and boredom.
Hope the people involved will make a full recovery it’s typically of the media the Journal and Rte included there would not be a mention of this race on the Journal Rte or anywhere else on their sports only that there was this accident and now all the media is jumping in. It reminds me of the people mulling around a car accident to see what is going to happen next. SAD.

I have followed road racing for 25 years plus and this always happens when an accident happens. How come you never report on the road races that go ahead with no accidents? Or how about mention the fantastic racing that happened yesterday after the races were restarted. No doubt the journal will be waiting for an accident to happen in the Isle of Man so they can report on that also. Shameful
true Shane the independent had it on there site as well the same happened at skerries a couple of years ago when a spectator was injured, I understand these incidents are news but so is the brilliance of the rider’s.

Yes agree with all of the above. Only time motorcycle sport gets any coverage in Irish media is when there is a death, accident or other negative and unfortunate incident. Despite the fact that NW brings a crowd of 100k or more and goes on for a week the only news reported is an accident!
