4 of a kind: Spacious homes under 30 minutes from Cork city

From a period property in Nohoval to a huge home in Montenotte built in ’90s.

WHEN IT COMES to compromise, Cork is certainly county that lets you enjoy the best of both worlds. If your family is a mix of urban and rural lovers, a home that has the city close by and easy access to the countryside may be the way to go.

From a period property in Nohoval to a huge home in Montenotte built in ’90s, we’ve found four places that will ensure you’re in the city within thirty minutes or less without being too far from that fresh country air, too.

Four-bed, Nohoval – €435,000

Old Nohoval House’s facade will instantly tell you that this isn’t your average family home. Spread over three floors and spanning an impressive 277 m², the period features reveal themselves as soon as you wander up the avenue and are presented with an acre of private gardens and a large courtyard to the front of the house. Inside comprises four bedrooms and three bathrooms along with a kitchen, a dining room with a lounge area, a utility room, a study and two living rooms.

The larger town of Carrigaline is just a ten minute drive away, while Cork city can be reached in thirty. Nohoval Cove – a stunning small bay with steep cliffs and rugged rocks is also close by.

Three-bed, Richmond Hill – €390,000

If thirty minutes seems too long, then check out 19 Richmond Hill, a three-bed home that’s just a walk from the city centre. A double fronted property, the bedrooms and main bathroom, which has views of the city, are located on the same level as the entrance, while the kitchen, living room and sitting room are all downstairs.

The attic is floored and well-lit thanks to a large window. It’s in great nick and could potentially turn into an extra bedroom or simply a home office. The back patio is spacious and has views of the city, too, while the handy utility is tucked away on this floor but also has steps that lead to the front of this quaint house in a great location.

Approached by electric gates and on .3 of an acre, the big back garden is south-facing and the BER is a comfortable C1. This home was built in the ’90s and is one of seven detached houses on a cul-de-sac.

Along with the bedrooms (which all have en suites), inside also comprises a living room, dining room, sun room and kitchen as well as a home office, utility and sitting room. Four-bed, Carrigaline – €375,000

Spanning 142 m² and with a C2 BER, 29 Rowan Court in Carrigaline has a wrap around extension that is now home to a generously-sized open plan kitchen, dining and living space that’s full of natural light. The kitchen comes complete with high-end appliances and a standout island. There’s the added luxury of a separate utility room just off this space. Double doors also connect the living room creating a ground floor with great flow. An extra bedroom was also added to the ground floor as part of the extension.
