35 Palmerston Road

To kick things off, we’ll pay a visit to 35 Palmerston Road, a beautiful red brick Victorian dwelling. Built in the late 19th century, this home is full of character and stunning period touches.

A detached two-storey over garden level home, the floor span totals 447 m². Entering through the welcoming hall with encaustic tiled and mahogany hardwood floor, four windows, bespoke staircase with ornate gothic handrail and bannister, high ceilings with minstrel gallery overhead, dado rail and highly-detailed cornicing. The home has been refurbished but retains a historic feel with its stunning marble fireplaces in the rooms on hall level. Above the hall level, you’ll find three bedrooms, with another on the floor above.

The garden level of the home has the two remaining bedrooms, as well as a host of other rooms. This is the main living quarters of the property, with a living room, games room, kitchen and cellar all situated here. It gets plenty of light thanks to well-positioned windows that look out into the garden. This area is the most modern within the home, recently refurbished and with plenty of storage room.

To the rear of the home, the incredible landscaped garden is laid out in a lawn bordered with wide beds of mature trees, box hedging, shrubs and seasonal flowers. Designed by Paul Doyle with a south-westerly aspect to the rear, allium, peony roses, hydrangea and acers are just a few of the many species providing seasonal colour through the wonderful mix of greenery. A sandstone gravel pathway circles the garden and connects several patios.

35 Palmerston Road is on sale through Sherry FitzGerald, with an asking price of €5,250,000.

Solferino Lodge

Next up in Dublin 6 is Solferino Lodge on Belgrave Road. This is another late 19th-century home that has undergone serious renovation in the last twenty years.

The home is an incredible mix of contemporary and period style. It features four reception rooms, a study/home office, a kitchen/breakfast room, four bedrooms, one with an ensuite, family bathroom and guest water closet/utility room. A number of period features were retained in the renovations including unusually high ceilings (12ft at hall level) and original details such as magnificent cornicing. The home is well lit, with a 12 pane sash window overlooking the rear garden in the entrance hall, instantly connecting you with the green space.

The kitchen/breakfast room on the garden level consists of an extensive range of bespoke hardwood wall and kitchen units, with an integrated fridge and freezer. A Bosch oven and warming drawer, Aga with mirrored splashback, island unit with marble top incorporating a breakfast bar and a stainless steel sink with mixer tap are just some of the features in the kitchen that has everything.

The rear garden was designed with landscaper Paul Doyle and is laid out in an extensive lawn bordered with box and mature high hedging which allows unbeatable privacy. Elsewhere in the garden, you’ll enjoy feature gravelled parterre with box hedging and specimen trees, sandstone patio and pathway and seating areas dotted around the garden to catch the best aspect at different times of the day. At the base of the garden, two large sheds measure 39 ft x 8’9″ ft approximately. They offer wonderful scope (subject to planning permission) and benefit from vehicular access to/from a gated laneway off Belgrave Avenue.

On sale with an asking price of €3,100,000, Solferino Lodge is brought to the market by Sherry FitzGerald.

The Gables

The Gables is a stunning detached family home just 3.5 kilometres from Dublin city centre.

The home sits on private gardens on a quiet residential road in Rathgar. Enter via impressive wrought iron vehicular entrance gates flanked by high granite walls into what is an unusually large home for the area (489m²). Through the front door, you’ll find a spectacular triple height inner Reception Hall that characterises the rest of this magnificent home. The main family living area is found on the garden level floor and includes a drawing room which leads into a Conservatory with access to a private walled garden to the front of the house. This level also contains a comfortable sitting room and an interconnected dining room that enjoys a view of the rear garden. This is a gorgeous area to host guests in, thanks to the open space, or alternatively, they can be separated with French doors to provide their own individual rooms.

Upstairs, there are 4 large double bedrooms and a single bedroom with ample space, as well as the main family bathroom. At this level, there is also a bespoke Oakline library/computer desk that acts as an additional workspace and enjoys the overhead natural light flooding the inner Reception Hall below thanks to its clever positioning. On the floor above, there are two more large double bedrooms and a shower room. You’ll also find a feature family room with vaulted ceilings and mezzanine accommodation at this level. This can be used as a private space, ideal for guests or teenagers.

At the back of the home, there is a very substantial Mews/Garage with a fully fitted kitchen, a temperature-regulated wine cellar and a home gym. As for the garden, it is cleverly designed and landscaped perfectly. To the front, there is a secluded private walled garden that enjoys westerly sunshine. This space is accessed via a wrought iron gate from the driveway to the front and accessed internally from the Conservatory. This is an ideal outdoor dining space to enjoy evening sunshine in a secluded and private setting.

The Gables is on sale through Lisney Sotheby’s, with an asking price of €3,750,000.

Oakley Manor

Lastly, we come to Oakley Manor, which was built in 1845. This Victorian home is spread over a substantial 250 m², with five bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Split over three levels, this home still boasts a number of exquisite period features. A beautiful and welcoming hall features ornate cornicing and ceiling rose. This hallway leads to two lovely interconnecting reception rooms that continue the period theme, including unique plasterwork, fine mantelpieces and original sash windows. You’ll find two well-endowed bedrooms upstairs, with a third on the return and two more bedrooms at garden level.

The kitchen and breakfast room run across the front of the house and enjoy access to a quiet patio area and out to the front garden. The kitchen is laid out in a galley style, with tiled floor, wall and base units incorporating a stainless sink unit, Belling oven, hob and extractor fan. This and the dining room make good use of the windows looking into both gardens, and are overall a lovely space to dine and entertain.

Both of the gardens are a stand-out feature of this residence. They offer great seclusion and privacy with excellent spaces to relax and soak up whatever sunlight we are blessed with. The fantastic rear garden measures close to 86ft and offers an opportunity to extend, subject to planning permission. A block built storage shed out the back could be easily modified to become a work from home space, and to round the rear garden off, you’ll enjoy pedestrian access to a private laneway.

On sale through Sherry FitzGerald, Oakley Manor is on sale for €2,000,000.
