4 of a kind: Spacious family homes with offices and studies

Need a place where you can shut the door and get to work? Look no further.

IN RECENT MONTHS, working from home has become part of the new normal for thousands of people.

Employers big and small have made a radical transition to remote working. Only this week, Google announced that all employees would have the option of working from home until at least summer 2021.

And so for many of us, having a room at home to work (relatively) undisturbed has never been more important.

This week, we’ve picked out four homes with dedicated work spaces around the country.

Rush, Co Dublin – €615,000

The five-bedroom home at 13 Drumanagh Court is nothing if not spacious, spanning 224 square metres over three floors. It sits in a quiet, recently built cul-de-sac a short walk from Rush village.

On the ground floor, a large living room occupies the front of the house while a kitchen, dining and lounge area spans the full width at the back. Upstairs there are two master bedrooms – one on the first floor with an en-suite, and one on the second with an en-suite and walk-in wardrobe.

Of the remaining three bedrooms, that on the top floor under the eaves would make a quiet workspace with excellent privacy as well as views over the back garden.

Ashford, Co Wicklow – €725,000

Situated just outside Ashford and the on the edge of woodland, Mythago Wood is a very substantial four-bedroom property with an impressive layout.

Entering through the front door, a vestibule leads up oak steps to the expansive living room area with double-height ceilings. This room spans the entire width of the house, with views over the extensive front and back gardens. It adjoins a large kitchen with family dining table.

Along with utility spaces, the home office/fourth bedroom completes the ground floor, with its own entrance to the front of the house. Upstairs are three further bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Glasson, Co Westmeath – €549,000

A few minutes from Glasson village outside Athlone, this imposing double-fronted property sits on its own in a countryside setting. Although modern in construction it has a period feel, with salvaged timber flooring and cast-iron fireplace on the ground floor.

Together the living room, kitchen and dining room make up the entire side and rear of the house, so there is plenty of space for family life. Completing the ground floor is a spacious study looking over the driveway.

Of the four bedrooms upstairs, two are en-suite. There is also a family bathroom.

Grantstown Village, Waterford city – €470,000

Situated in a private cul-de-sac close to the city centre, the four-bedroom detached home at 3 Glendarragh spans 162 square metres over two floors.

As you might expect, there is plenty of space inside. The ground floor offers two main reception rooms: a living and dining room, and a separate lounge. To the rear is a large and welcoming kitchen, with another table for family meals.

The study at the rear of the house offers a view of the mature landscaped garden. Upstairs are four bedrooms, one en-suite, and a family bathroom.
