4 of a kind: Homes across the country with super skylights

Four charming homes that that are full of light.

WHETHER YOU’RE BUILDING from scratch or buying secondhand, well-positioned skylights can be the key to introduce natural brightness to a space that needs it, even on a cloudy day.

This week, we scoured Daft to find four charming homes that have wonderful skylights.

Castlebar, Co. Mayo – €55o,000

This large five-bed home has a floor area of 281 m² and sits on .4 of an acre. Split level in design and built in 1998, the house has three floors that are filled with natural light. Rooms consist of two bedrooms on the ground floor, an open plan kitchen which is stepped down to, a dining room and living room that has a dual aspect and double height ceiling. Three more bedrooms (one with an en suite) are located on the next floor with walk-in wardrobes. A further carpeted wooden staircase leads to the top floor divided into two bedrooms, one of which is currently used for a games room.

With the town of Castlebar just 3km away, the house offers rural living but not complete isolation. The house’s orientation makes the most of the countryside setting and views. An electric gate and a tarmac drive with plenty of parking surrounds the house along with its gardens and lawns and large garden shed. On one side is a home gym with roller door, the other side fitted for a home business.

To the back of the house is an extension that dates to 2006. It’s home to the kitchen and dining space that gets lots of natural light through the Velux windows and sunroom.

A family room sits off the kitchen and overlooks the back garden. Each bedroom is bright and spacious with the main enjoying a feature fireplace, built in wardrobes and bay window. They all share a fully tiled family bathroom on this level. The house is close to Griffith Park and the Botanic Gardens are just a walk away.
