Bamboozled by broadband? Learn what options are best for you

Find the answers to your questions at ComReg.

WHEN IT COMES to communication technology, not all of us are experts – and that’s okay. With the rapid change in the technology we rely on for personal use and work these days, it can be hard to keep on top of everything.

Luckily, there is help out there if you don’t know the answers to everything, with or without Google.

Since 2002, ComReg (the Commission for Communications Regulation) has been the regulator and source of trusted advice and support for Irish consumers when it comes to electronic communications services (mobile phone, home phone and broadband).

It is an expert in electronic communications services and offers independent information to answer any questions. ComReg’s website should be your go-to for any guidance you may need about modern communications.

ComReg’s 2023 Broadband Connectivity consumer survey shows that 44% of respondents work from home online at least one day a week. They’re doing more with broadband than ever before, highlighting its important role in Ireland’s future.

ComReg recently launched a free online resource called Broadband Checker. This new resource can help people find what fixed broadband options are available at a location.

Simply enter either an Eircode or an address into Broadband Checker to discover your options. If broadband is available or planned, a table will be shown with the network operator, type of broadband (for example, fibre) and its speed. You can also find a list of service providers that may sell broadband on that network.

As well as telling you what broadband is out there, ComReg have plenty of helpful information about getting the most out of your service. You can find tips on improving your internet connection, thorough explanations of fibre broadband and information on plans that suit you best.

They also offers tips on switching providers. Did you know when switching if any issues in this process lead to you losing service, this must not exceed one working day?

ComReg also has further advice and information on broadband and mobile services on it’s website. This includes two tools that allow you to compare broadband and mobile plans from different retailers and a mobile coverage map

ComReg’s Consumer Care team is available to assist you, or your authorised representative, 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday (excluding public holidays)
