23-year-old man in court after cyclist killed in hit-and-run

The man was arrested this morning and will appear in court tonight.

A 23-YEAR-OLD MAN is due to appear in court tonight charged in connection with a fatal hit and run in Galway.

The man, who was arrested this morning, will appear before a special sitting of Loughrea District Court at 10pm tonight.

John White, 68, was seriously injured in the collision in Loughrea on Wednesday night when his bicycle was struck by a car close to a set of pedestrian lights.

He was taken to University College Hospital Galway where he was later pronounced dead.

The vehicle drove away from the scene and gardaí had appealed to the public for information about it.
