Deals website has people 'demented with worry' as Christmas presents not delivered

The IWantThisDeal.ie Facebook page is full of complaints about the site.

DEALS WEBSITE IWantThisDeal.ie is facing complaints from scores of angry customers who say they haven’t received gifts ahead of Christmas Day.

The Facebook page of the the website, which has over 40,000 likes, is full of customers demanding refunds and claiming they have been left in the lurch.

The website offers customers goods and services in advance at a discounted rate. Customers pay for the product up front and are then given a redeemable voucher code to collect the product later.

Many of the complaints relate to people who say they had been promised the products ahead of Christmas but are now being disappointed.

Some customers who paid for their items through PayPal have had their money refunded and are encouraging others to contact PayPal for a refund.

One such customer is Lee Malone who told TheJournal.ie that she has contacted the Consumer Protection Commission:

I placed an order worth €83.95 at the end of November and still no sign of the product. I have since opened a PayPal claim and contacted consumer rights. Everyone seems to have the exact same experience.

“I should be fine as luckily I paid through PayPal, but there were so many people expecting goods, and banking on them for Christmas morning. At this late stage in the game, hard to replace and some people simply can’t afford to,” she adds.

Another customer, Richie Corr, ordered what the website described as ‘Retro Handheld Games Console’ on 3 December and had not received the item by Christmas Eve. This despite being assured on 18 December that they would be delivered by 22 December.

The response Corr received from the company said a delay in deliveries to them had caused the problem:

We would like to apologise as there has been a delay with the delivery of the consoles to our warehouse but this has now been resolved and we are expecting to receive this order by the 21st, as soon as we receive this order it will then be dispatched.

“The delivery on this product will be close to Christmas and we are aware you are anxious but we can assure you will receive this in time for Christmas,” it adds.

The website lists no phone number or address on either their website or Facebook page and efforts made by TheJournal.ie to contact them by email have been unsuccessful.

The website’s Facebook administrators have been responding selectively to complaints and on Tuesday told people to be patient.
