Hydration stations to be set up for rough sleepers in Dublin as temperatures soar

A charity group has also appealed for donations of water and sunscreen.

HYDRATION STATIONS ARE being set up for homeless people around Dublin as temperatures are expected to hit the high 20s and above this week.

The Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH) group will be setting up the water stations around Dublin City this morning from 10 am.

The charity has also appealed for donations of water, sunscreen and aftersun so that they can distribute them to rough sleepers throughout the heatwave.

Met Éireann said that temperatures will go as high as 27 degrees today in some places, and could go even higher over the next few days.

As status yellow weather warning is in place from 6am today until 9pm on Friday.

Inner City Helping Homeless Director Anthony Flynn said:

“Normally we would be putting in a place cold weather initiatives, but with weather due to hit the highest recorded temperatures since 1887 we must protect our most vulnerable,” he said in a statement.

Hydration Stations will be set up in locations that are densely populated by the homeless community and outside some of the largest hostels in order to provide water throughout the day.

”No public water fountains or access to water is a grave concern, especially for those who are spending extended periods on the street. There is a serious risk of dehydration and sunstroke and we must ensure that all services are coordinated correctly.”

ICHH says that the hydration stations are a preventative measure but one that it feels is required.

To volunteer at the ICHH hydration stations call 01-8881804 or donate through the website.
