NEW FIGURES FROM the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that 8,486 days were lost to industrial disputes in 2012. This is more than double the number of days in 2011 at 1,695.
There were a total of five industrial disputes last year compare with eight in 2011 with 1,920 workers involved in 2012 compared with 1,384 the year before.
Two disputes in the industry sector accounted for 72 per cent of the days lost in 2012, with 6,114 of the 8,486 total days lost. The sector with the second largest number of days lost was wholesale and retail trade in the repair of motor vehicles and motor cycles at 1,640 days.
During the fourth quarter of 2012, there were no days lost to industrial disputes for the first time since October 2007.
