Hat-trick: Ferrari takes the crown for Engine Of The Year... again

Ferrari has won the top prize three years in a row.

THE FERRARI V8 HAS once again been crowned overall winner of the International Engine of the Year awards, becoming only the second engine in the awards’ history to scoop the title for three consecutive years.

Ferrari took home six awards during this year’s ceremony, the highest number for any manufacturer in any one year, bringing the total of Ferrari’s trophies to 27.

The V8 won by a margin of almost 300 points, making it a clear winner in the eyes of the jury (which included one Dave Humphreys, a regular contributor to TheJournal.ie‘s DoneDeal Motor Magazine).

The Ferrari V8 engine pipped Porsche’s 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged engine to the first place post, followed by Ferrari’s 6.5-litre V12 engine in third place.

Other winners on the night included Volkswagen for its 999cc TSI three-cylinder turbocharged power unit, which won the Sub-1.0-litre category.

Tesla’s full-electric powertrain won the Green Engine and Electric Powertrain categories and PSA’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine won the 1.0- to 1.4-litre category.
