It’s now the dominant internet domain for major companies

TOMORROW WILL MARK 30 years since the first .com domain name was registered.
Symbolics.com was the first website to hold it.
Amazon.com was registered in 1997 with Google.com following on in 1997.

The domain name has become the dominant one among major companies worldwide with every single one of the Fortune 500 companies bearing the .com suffix.

As the web looks back at the last thirty years of the internet, the Open University have used Internet Archive to to go back in time to the beginning of many of the world’s most popular websites.

Back to when Netscape Navigator led the browser wars, initially staying ahead of the first versions of Internet Explorer.
