Gardaí investigating after bodies of two men (40s) recovered from canal in Dublin

The men’s bodies were recovered shortly after 8am.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after the bodies of two men were discovered in Dublin this morning.

Shortly after 8am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of a body in the canal at Grand Parade in Ranelagh.

The bodies of two men, aged in their 40s, were recovered from the canal a short time later. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí have identified both men, but the formal identification process is still ongoing.

It’s understood that both men were Irish, and may have been living in tents nearby. Their bodies are understood to have been recovered near Charlemont Luas stop.

The scene is preserved, and a Garda cordon is in place. The Office of the State Pathologist and the local Coroner have been notified.

A garda spokesperson said the results of post-mortem examinations and local enquiries will determine the course of their investigations.

The spokesperson said no additional information is available at this time and that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
