Investigation launched into fire at Our Lady's Hospital in Cork

Gardaí believe that the last night’s fire was started maliciously.

GARDAÍ ARE TREATING as malicious a fire that began in a wing of the former Our Lady’s Hospital in Cork last night.

RTÉ reports that the space has been derelict for some time as renovations have been marked to take place. Several incidents of anti-social behaviour have been reported in relation to the the wing in recent months.

The Cork City Fire Service received an emergency call shortly after 10pm last night. Five units were dispatched to deal with the blaze, which ultimately caused extensive damage to the wing.

This morning, two units remain at the scene.

A garda investigation is under way.
