Poll: Does Ireland have a drinking problem?

Are we bad, or do surveys paint an unfairly negative picture?

AN INTERNATIONAL SURVEY suggests that nearly 3% of Irish drinkers have sought emergency help after drinking.

That puts Ireland top of the table, a full two percentage points above Germany.

Respondents described accidents, trauma, nausea, vomiting and passing out.

But, is it that bad? Do surveys portray an unfairly negative picture of Irish drinking? Or is our relationship with alcohol unhealthy?

We’re asking: Does Ireland have a drinking problem?

Poll Results:

Yes (8634)
A small minority do, but most don't (6160)
No (1256)
I don't know (159)
