A study has found that three out of five Irish people helped a stranger in the last month.

IRELAND IS THE third most generous country in Europe and is listed among the top ten most generous countries in the world.

That’s according to the annual index by the Charities Aid Foundation which measures the proportion of people who give to charity, who volunteer their time and who helped a stranger in the past month.

Myanmar (Burma) was found to be the most generous country, followed by the US and New Zealand.

Ireland was ranked the ninth most generous country of the 145 countries surveyed, coming out as the third most generous country in Europe.
