THE NUMBER OF jobs advertised in Ireland in the last quarter of 2014 increased 26% compared to the previous year.
The jump in ad sales is being put down to increased job activity across all sectors, according to Robert Walters Ireland.
Its European Job Index said the 26% increase here represents the largest year-on-year increase in advertising volumes across Europe.
Germany, Switzerland and France also saw job adverts increase – by 23%, 12% and 11% respectively.
Why the jump?
Robert Walters Ireland said that the figures reflect the increased levels of job activity across all sectors, following a year of strong economic growth here.

There was a 33% year-on-year increase in senior management and strategic roles, as well as a 30% rise in secretarial and support roles advertised.
Louise Campbell, Managing Director of Robert Walters Ireland, said: “We are now seeing an increase in candidate scarcity amongst skilled professionals, to the point where we are looking abroad as well as domestically to meet demand.”
Campbell said they expect continued recruitment growth in 2015.
“Particularly encouraging was the dramatic year-on-year growth of job adverts outside of Dublin in areas such as Cork, Galway, Kilkenny, and Limerick,” she commented.

Robert Walters found that the number of banking and financial services roles increased 41% year-on-year, and 8% on the previous quarter both in Dublin and regionally.
In 2014, job adverts revealed:
Financial services companies started to invest in revenue-generating front office roles
The IT sector grew by 21% year-on-year.
The compliance industry remained busy in the last quarter, up 15% on Q3 2014.
Accounting and finance roles increased 3% on the quarter and 22% year-on-year,

Just saw a part time shift work job in a Shipping Company at Dublin Port. Usual work your ass off with customers, do everything including cleaning, yard work and hours at company’s discretion and all for €11 an hour !! No mention of prospects either !
We may be getting a tad carried away with this. We’re coming off such a low base that any improvement looks good compared to those who didn’t plummet as far as we did. Its the same as a homeless person finding a euro in the street, he’d be delighted but if it where the rest of us it would be a “Mehh” moment.
@James so right SF & all the rag tag lot of lefty loonies panic when they hear any type of positive news as they have built their vote peddling sheer misery !
Yeah…I was visiting someone in hospital and the ones on trolleys were ecstatic with this news, sacrificing our health service for bondholders pensions really made sense to them.
#perspective.
Employment is not really up by much that’s the issue, Once we rise actual employment significantly (not unemployment). then maybe we might see some benefits coming through. All i can see now is I’m still being taxed to the absolute hilt , more than ever before and I’m seeing very little benefit from it. It’s a micro scale argument but true to me none the less.
People on hospital trolleys up.
Refusal of medical cards up.
Cancelling of surgeries up.
Increase of soup kitchens and alarming numbers of children living in poverty.
Roads falling into disrepair.
Refusal of grants and cutting of funding to vital services……but hey, let’s not worry about these things, that’s the fine gael way.
Of course, I just wish the ones who flock here to preach how good fg’s one sided austerity policy is would not hide away from facts and acknowledge that by pushing this agenda of paying an immoral debt to please Europe our health service is third world, our education services are suffering, children are starving and homelessness is rampant, they can’t play hear no evil, see no evil forever.
in fairness it’s probably a reaction to the doom merchants on here who try to paint every bit of good news as spin or every good thing the government does as electioneering . Instead of trying to deny there is a recovery there should be more debate on what needs to be prioritised in the recovery .
It only takes one hour of work to take you off the Live Register. Have a look at the above link for a more accurate depiction of employment in Ireland.
Actually Tom the numbers of people on different schemes including jobs bridge is 83,0000. This does not include people that have emigrated or does who have gone back to college. The 83,0000 are of the live regestor. This is a fact.
John,
Unemployment (“Live Register”) is measured by the Dept of Social Welfare. Employment is measured by the CSO. Writing “fact” after you tell a lie just prompts people to check out the facts.
Dermot,
As ever, because everything is not perfect you want to wallow in self pity. Of course more needs to be done about hospital trolleys but for once in your life recognise that not everything in the when is sh!t all the time.
So we’ve topped Europe in job adverts and you scurry here to suggest everything is grand…..facts remain, fg sacrificed our health service to pay a banking debt.
I don’t ever see you commenting on the real news that affects everyone Tom…what’s your opinion on children having to petition the dail to get a medical card or even how fine gael stole the motor tax to prop up their buddy buddy quango IW?
There’s a reason fg are a perpetual one term party and there’s a reason why fg weren’t allowed anywhere other than warm the opposition benches for 28 years…..every time they get into power they’re soon exposed as the inept, corrupt clowns they are…..there’s another fact Tom…Your party is hated…lolololol
Well tom, don’t know where you the self pity from, I am not in the jobs bridge situation myself, (thank god)but can see the injustice. Ever you hear the one about all it takes for evil to prosper is for a few good men to stand by and do nothing…, and the other one about ‘assume’ making an ass out of you you don’t know my circumstances, and your guesses are fair wide of the mark, but I think this job bridge scheme is little better Than indentured servitude, benefitting employers more than the internees.
indeed it is, i’m no longer sick of hearing lines like “We are now seeing an increase in candidate scarcity amongst skilled professionals, to the point where we are looking abroad as well as domestically to meet demand.” i just shut off.
they’ve been looking abroad for the past 5 years, regardless. Why have many of our own emigrated? for a better salary and better prospects. Wages have not gone up in 8 years, they’ve gone down while our cost of living has increased every 6 months. With rents gone up, food, bills, how would someone here be better off when their wages are down by up to 20%?
Plans are being considered for a hand-dug tunnel to Australia, for those who can’t afford the flight,
- when it reaches Australia, approximately one million will be working in the tunnel, at which point it will be sealed at the Irish end, – Problem solved….!! – Kenny takes a bow…
Maybe because they’re not feeling the change that’s being reported, and maybe because it is a little hard to trust our media when they are controlled by a government who need to show any statistic that makes them look better at this present time.
not all the roles would be scam bridge but the salaries are woeful and will continue to be as long as they have access to the pool. who are taking up these jobs? those that have the incentive in comparison to where they just came from – poorer paid countries where min wages are even less than the dole here. the only winners right across the sector in this game are the employers here and the imported. there would be no emigration if this wasn’t true. on here everyday, in the media you can see how they can broadcast half truth about IW, propaganda but don’t tell you the whole truth. This is no different. If they think the wages on offer are not appalling for here then is the cost of living very reasonable? No. Privatise everything, lower wages, create larger poorer classes, increase social tension and multicultural upheaval. All part of the plan. Crime pays too. Anything to keep the ball rolling for the higher class.
