Ireland needs access to funding at reasonable rates - Burton

The Minister for Social Protection said that the country is well placed to exit the EU/IMF bailout programme next year, but funding at a reasonable price was critical to recovery.

THE “TREMENDOUS SACRIFICES” of the Irish people had put the country in a good position to exit the EU/IMF bailout programme next year, but access to funding at reasonable prices was critical to Ireland’s economic recovery, the Minister for Social Protection has said.

Speaking today while out campaigning for a Yes vote in the upcoming Children’s Referendum, Joan Burton said access to reasonable rate was vital for Ireland to return to self-financing.

Burton said the European Union was about the common market – and funding issues would fall under this. This, she said, was case being presented by the Taoiseach and Tánaiste during their visits to different European leaders this week, RTÉ reports.

The Minister was campaigning in support of the Children’s Referendum with Dublin MEP, Emer Costello, and was also joined by Senator Ivana Bacik and Dublin City Councillors Rebecca Moynihan, Jane Horgan Jones and Michael O’Sullivan, as well as members from Labour Youth.

Burton said it was important for people to ‘avoid complacency’ and come out to vote on 10 November.
