COMEDIAN BRENDAN O’CARROLL has stepped in to help an Irish couple whose belongings were stolen soon after they arrived in the United States.

Dylan Hennessey and his girlfriend Aoife had just arrived in Orlando on their J1.

Speaking to Liveline on RTÉ Radio 1, he said the pair arrived back to the room yesterday to find a man taking their bags, which contained passports, money, credit cards, and ID.

Hennessey gave chase and the burglar dropped one bag containing only clothes.

“It’s not a great start [to our trip],” he told Liveline, “It’s a bit of a shock to the system.”

I’m staying here. I’m not going to let this destroy our holiday.

Liveline, along with with Dylan’s mother Fiona, had put out a call for any Irish people in the area to lend them a hand if possible.

During the show, Fiona came on the line to say a woman was at reception already with some money for the couple.

However, another caller closer to home was able to offer some help.

Philanthropist and star of Mrs Browns’ Boys Brendan O’Carroll said he would have someone down to the hotel “within the hour” with cash for the couple.

“What happened to him is terrible, but it happened in the right place,” O’Carroll said, “There’s plenty of Irish and English people there willing to help.”

He said he was prompted to call when he heard how upset Fiona was, and “how, as a 20 year old, un-upset Dylan is”.

Whatever he needs, we’ll make sure he gets it.
