Who's who in the Irish political version of Game of Thrones?

From Westeros to West Kerry.

IT TOOK A while, but Enda Kenny is the Protector of the Realm once more.

He’s had to cobble together a good few disparate houses on his Small Council, but he’s now back sitting on the the Iron (leather) Throne.

Albeit with a few more potential backstabbers smelling blood.

So to celebrate peace among the Seven Kingdoms, we’ve put together this (COMPLETELY NOT AT ALL SERIOUS, LADS) Irish political version of Game of Thrones.

Valar Morghulis.

Frances Fitzgerald and Daenerys Targaryen

Two women with a strong sense of justice and equality. With patience among their greatest assets, their supporters are convinced they’ll one day get the keys to the kingdom. Both often seen wearing ornate jewellery.

Gerry Adams and Jon Snow

Commanders of a band of devotees in the cold north with a shadowy past. Both are frequently believed to be fatally wounded but remarkably remain a force.

Micheal Martin and Tyrion Lannister

Both from houses that are seen by many as the natural seat of power, the two men are too often cruelly underestimated by those closest to them. Despite this, they often manage to manoeuvre things in their favour and you wouldn’t bet against them.

The Healy-Raes and the House Tyrell

A clan that revels in being the outsider, togetherness is their strength and don’t for a second underestimate them. Always good for a witty one-liner and growing stronger all the time.

Jack Chambers and Joffrey Baratheon

Maybe it all came too soon for the two lads, time will tell. Fianna Fáil in Dublin West and the Lannisters in King’s Landing share about as proud a lineage as it comes, so it’s a steep learning curve. Not exactly a smash hit with their peers, not that they care.

Alan Kelly and Ramsay Bolton

Wildly ambitious, let’s leave it at that…

Mary Lou McDonald and Melisandre

This pair aren’t ones for observing rules of nature, or Dáil Standing Orders, but their rebellious streak is exactly where their power lies.

Quite often surrounded by men yet putting frequently putting them in the shade, you better keep your eye on them.

Terry Prone and Varys

Technically neither has any skin in the game, but trusted advisors who often have the ear of those in power.

Enda Kenny and Cersei Lannister

Okay, so they’ve both taken a pretty humiliating lashing from the public recently. But the reality is that they both survived and still head up the strongest house in the kingdom.

Never the type to let plotters get the better of them, they know the power of incumbency and are willing to wield it.
