OVER 100 IRISH troops spent their Christmas Day in Syria, as part of a UN peacekeeping mission in the Golan Heights.

Despite being so far from home, the troops minds were firmly in Ireland.

The troops have previously wished family well from the area, which is near the Israeli-Syrian border, but here is how they, and their kitchen staff, spent the day.
