AN IRISHMAN HAS died in what is thought to be a drowning incident in Thailand.

It is understood that the man was from the Dungarvan area of Co Waterford and is being named locally this evening as David Houlihan.

The incident happened on the island of Koh Samui, a popular destination in the country for tourists.

A member of the Dungarvan GAA club, he was part of their senior hurling squad that reached the 2012 Waterford county final against De La Salle.

Tributes have been coming this evening from a number of local GAA clubs from Co Waterford.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said this evening that they are aware of the case and providing consular assistance to the man’s family.
