THIS WEEKEND WILL see the 8 December, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

A national holiday in many countries, in Ireland it is the traditional start of Christmas in Ireland, a day that the Christmas shopping begins in earnest.

But with decorations going up sooner and sooner these days, does the day hold any relevance outside of the church celebration?
