Houthis say death toll from Israeli strikes on Yemeni capital has risen to 35

Multiple sites in Sana’a were targeted, including a fuel storage facility.

LAST UPDATE | 10 Sep

YEMEN’S HOUTHIS HAVE said the death toll from Israel’s strikes on the Yemeni capital Sana’a has risen to 35.

“The number of martyrs and injured among citizens from the treacherous Zionist crime has risen… to 35 martyrs and 131 wounded,” the rebels’ health ministry spokesman Anees Alasbahi posted on X, adding it was not a final toll.

It comes less than 24 hours after Israel conducted strikes against Hamas officials in the Qatari capital Doha.

“A short while ago, the IAF (Israeli air force) struck military targets belonging to the Huthi terrorist regime in the areas of Sana’a and Al-Jawf in Yemen,” a military statement said.

Israeli officials said that the targets included military camps “in which operatives of the terrorist regime were identified”, the Houthi’s military public relations headquarters and a fuel storage facility “that was used by the terrorist regime”.

Defence Minister Israel Katz today vowed that Israel would “act against its enemies anywhere”, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Qatar to expel Hamas officials or hold them to account, “because if you don’t, we will”.

A large plume of grey smoke billowed above Sana’a as the sound of strikes echoed across the city.

The attack was described as “Israeli aggression on the capital Sana’a” by the Houthis’ Al-Masirah television station.

A building housing the Huthi armed forces’ media operation was hit, according to the station.

“Martyrs, wounded, and several homes damaged as a result of the Israeli attack on the Moral Guidance Headquarters,” Al-Masirah reported.

They added that civil defence workers, ambulances and rescue teams are still searching for several missing people.

Following strikes in Doha yesterday, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that “Israel’s long arm will act against its enemies anywhere”.

“There is no place where they can hide,” Katz wrote on X.

Last month, Israeli strikes killed the Houthi prime minister and 11 other senior officials – the most high-ranking assassinations since Israel and the Houthis began exchanging fire in recent years.

Since October 2023, the Houthis have launched repeated drone and missile strikes against Israel, claiming solidarity with the Palestinians.

In response, Israel has carried out repeated rounds of retaliatory attacks in Yemen, targeting ports, power stations and the international airport in Sana’a.
