Israeli forces announce weapons boat seizure

Military says two Palestinian men who were on board the vessel were arrested.

ISRAEL SAYS it has intercepted a boat carrying guns and ammunition across the Dead Sea today and has arrested two men who were on board.

Both men being questioned have been described as Palestinians aged in their 40s.

Israel’s Defence Forces tweeted today that the weapons taken today include 10 AK-47s and around 300 bullets. It described the incident as a “Palestinian smuggling attempt”.

The military says it is not treating today’s weapons find as an attempted military attack.

Israel says that the Dead Sea is known as a route for smugglers, although weapons have rarely been discovered on vessels there.
