Swipe right for peace: This dating app aims to bring Israelis and Palestinians together

“World Peace, one swipe at a time”.

A NEW DATING app that bears a strong resemblance to Tindr is aimed at bringing Israelis and Palestinians together and promoting peace.

The app, called Verona, which we imagine was inspired by the tragic story of star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet, has the slogan: “World Peace, one swipe at a time”. Its creator says they hope to “initiate a new conversation about how even the most seemingly divided people can find a peaceful way to coexist”.

Every time you open Verona, you’ll immediately see new, interesting people nearby. Israelis will see Palestinians, and Palestinians will see Israelis. You’ll see their photo, interests you have in common, and what they’re most passionate about.

When users sign up, they are asked to identify themselves as either Israeli or Palestinian.

Once they are signed up, they will be able to see profiles of people who are nearby and who have common interests.

Like Tindr, they can swipe left and right depending on whether or not they like what they see and if someone likes them back, it’s a match. They can then chat within the app.

“Is Verona the path to world peace?” the creator asks. “Hey, anything is possible…”
