ITV apologises for showing Ainsley Harriott in a report about Lenny Henry

The mix-up occurred during a package about Henry being knighted.

ITV NEWS HAS apologised after mixing up comedian Lenny Henry and TV cook Ainsley Harriott in a report.

The error occurred during a news package about Henry being knighted by Queen Elizabeth.

Viewers instantly noticed the mistake, with some pointing out that it occurred as Lenny discussed diversity during the package.

Here’s the moment the real Lenny Henry was awarded his knighthood for ‘services to drama and charity’ today:

Henry is a stand-up comedian and writer who has long campaigned for diversity on screen.

Harriott is best known for the show Ready Steady Cook. He formed the comedy group the Calypso Twins with his friend Paul Boross.

They released a single in the 1990s, and a clip of what appeared to be a Calypso Twins live performance was shown in error during the ITV package on Henry’s career.

ITV has removed the clip from the report on its +1 channel.
