Motor Envy: The Jaguar F-Type is a seriously slick modern classic

Just don’t expect to fit the whole family in.

What’s this then?

This is the oh-so sexy Jaguar F-Type coupe. A contemporary classic, if you will.

Oh really? What’s so special about it?

Apart from its gorgeous and instantly recognisable shape, the F-Type is a fabulous car to drive, with precise and agile handling, refined style and sheer comfort behind the wheel. Oh, and it has some powerful performance potential too.

Any standout design features?

Are you blind? Look at it. LOOK AT IT. This Jag’s eye-catching design combines both power and grace with some bold proportions.

Just stand back and admire that long bonnet, sloping roofline and muscular, upswept rear haunches. This particular model stands out thanks to its 20-inch alloys, body-coloured bumpers and mirrors, R-Design body kit and sports exhaust.

And what powers this Jaguar F-Type?

Under that seductively long bonnet is a new four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that makes this Big Cat move.

To compensate for the loss of two cylinders, Jaguar has tuned the engine’s intake and exhaust noise, in an attempt to get it as close as possible to the six-pot’s soundtrack. It’s an approach that works, because the F-Type certainly sings.

Does the Jaguar F-Type have any luxurious touches?

It’s a Jag, darling. Check out the all-leather interior, the heated seats, and even the new stereo camera that controls the autonomous emergency braking system. For techies, there’s a Touch Pro infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, sat nav, Bluetooth and voice control, plus fancy Meridian sound controls.

But who would drive this car?

A savvy motorist, who loves a bargain and a fast car, that’s who. Oh, and one who has no young kid, because space is tight.

Thanks to a lower emission rate than previous Jags, the F-Type costs less to run, and is cheaper to buy too. Win.
