From snow pants to a balance bike: 10 items for toddlers I'll be looking for in the January sales

Emily Westbrooks shares the products she hopes to make a saving on.

YOUNG KIDS DON’T come cheap. That’s why every Wednesday in the Parenting Magazine, we scan the best offers from pregnancy to preschool - online and off.

This week, Emily Westbrooks is sharing the products for toddlers that she’ll be keeping an eye out for during the January sales.

Pendleton Somerby Balance Bike (RRP €105)

You could definitely get a balance bike for cheaper than this, but how cute is this one from Pendleton Somerby? There’s something about the mint green that is much more appealing than Paw Patrol branded naff and, every so often, I like to find options that don’t assault my eyes with neon colours.

Lakaluk Learning Tower (RRP €169)

So many friends swear by these learning towers (also known as kitchen helpers), which allow your child to stand up at the counter with you without the fear of them falling off the back of a chair. Since my children are prone to push a chair over to nosey into whatever I’m cooking or cleaning in the kitchen, this would be a much safer route.

Next Military Wool Coat (RRP €46)

Usually by January, I can just about predict what size my kids are going to fit into next winter. That’s why the post-Christmas sales are a great time to stock up on next year’s winter gear. This winter coat from Next would make an adorable option – and something to cross of the list well before winter 2020 rolls around.

Maxi Cosi Core Pro Car Seat (RRP €239)

It’s almost time to upgrade our car seats for growing toddlers, and these Maxi Cosi options would be perfect. They’re a lovely colour, which I can only hope won’t get covered in toddler snack goo too quickly.

Mothercare Marlow Toddler Bed (RRP €109)

While I’m in no rush to get my son out of his crib (that’s when sleep went downhill fast for our daughter!), if you’ve got a kid nearing toddler bed age, the Christmas sales might help you save a few bob.

JoJo Maman Bebe Wellie Boots and Llama Liners (RRP €24 and €7)

If there ever was a necessity for children in Ireland, wellie boots are it. It’s always nice to get them at a discount, too, if you can’t find them second hand. Wellie boots definitely last through more than one kid, especially if you manage to get your hands on a nice quality pair.

Zara Water Resistant Snow Pants (RRP €39.99)

With family living in wintry places abroad, and a partner who loves to ski, snow pants aren’t exactly a necessity, which is why I’d much prefer to get these at a discount. I try to buy items like this in colours that will suit boys and girls, so whatever my daughter grows out of could eventually fit my son.

Gro Clock Sleep Trainer (RRP €27.99)

When you’ve run out of tricks for keeping your little ones in their beds past 6am (let’s be honest, sometimes that’s a victory in the dark depths of winter), a Gro Clock might be worth a try. There are no guarantees with toddlers and sleep, so it would be nice to get one of these on sale.

Homcom Child Bike Carrier (RRP €160)

It might not be the best weather for cycling yet, but we might be able to get away with zooming around outside if we had one of these bike carriers, in which you could bundle the toddlers up in blankets and get some fresh air on a cycling path. We love taking our kids on outdoor adventures, but now that they don’t fit in hiking backpacks, this might be the next best option.

Next Bunny Jogger Set (RRP €22.50)

While this adorable bunny jogger set isn’t terribly expensive, it would be a super deal if they went on sale and you could scoop them up before Easter. They’d be perfect for a cosy outfit when the spring is still chilly but you’re ready to see your kids in something new and cheerful!
