Man (21) arrested in Omagh over Jason McGovern death

The man is the fifth person to be arrested in connection with the death of the 19-year-old student who was found dead at a Monaghan house on Monday morning.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the murder of Jason McGovern in Omagh earlier this week.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch made the arrest in the Omagh area this morning. In a statement, the PSNI said the man is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

The man is the fifth person to be arrested over the death of the 19-year-old.

Police launched a murder investigation after Jason McGovern was found dead at a friend’s house in Emyvale in Monaghan on the morning of 31 December. He had been assaulted twice on a night out in Omagh the previous evening.

A post mortem found the teenager had died as a result of a head injury sustained in the assaults.

The PSNI has renewed its appeal to speak to the driver and occupants of a dark coloured Renault Megane car which was parked outside the Terrace Bar in John Street in Omagh when the first assault on Jason McGovern took place. Police believe the occupants could have witnessed the attack and may have valuable information.
