John Gilligan's prized Jessbrook estate sold by CAB

No price or purchaser has been revealed.

JOHN GILLIGAN’S FORMER estate, known as Jessbrook, has been sold by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB).

The property in Mucklon, county Kildare was seized by the agency 17 years ago and put up for sale last September.

The move came after a long court battle between the convicted criminal and the CAB. The Supreme Court eventually gave the sale the green light in November 2012.

A spokesperson for CAB told TheJournal.ie that the final sale price will not be disclosed.

The expected price tag, when the estate first went on the market, was about €500,000.

The buyer has not yet been revealed but a statement is expected in due course.

The estate, which includes 80 acres of land, an equestrian arena and other agricultural buildings, has been unoccupied since 1996.

Gilligan fled Ireland on St Patrick’s Day this year after a shooting incident a fortnight earlier. While attending a family christening in Clondalkin, the 61-year-old was shot a number of times.

He recovered in hospital and left Ireland hours after being discharged.
