Man arrested following armed robbery in Co Kildare

The incident occurred at approximately 8.15am this morning when two males armed with a firearm entered a shop in Johnstown and held up staff before escaping with a sum of money.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man in his 30s and recovered a firearm following an armed robbery this morning in Co Kildare.

At approximately 8.15am two males armed with a firearm entered a shop in Johnstown and held up staff before escaping with a sum of money.

No shots were fired during the raid and no-one was injured.

Gardaí later apprehended a man near the scene and recovered a handgun in addition to a sum of money.

The man was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Naas Garda Station.

The second male that was involved in the incident escaped in a car which has since been located.
