JP McManus Facebook injunction application struck out

The billionaire businessman and racehorse owner is still seeking damages for defamation and fraudulent misrepresentation over Facebook profiles purporting to be him.

AN INJUNCTION APPLICATION by billionaire businessman and philanthropist JP McManus which aimed to force Facebook to shut down some user accounts has been struck out at the High Court.

RTÉ reports that lawyers for the social network told the court that the profiles in question, which purported to be McManus, had been removed from the site and will not be republished, pending the outcome of McManus’ other court actions.

McManus, 60, is seeking damages for defamation, fraudulent misrepresentation and breaches of his constitutional rights under Article 40 of the constitution, which deals with the personal rights of the citizen. He also wants a declaration that the publication and maintenance of some of his personal information on the Facebook pages was a breach of his rights under the Data Protection Acts.
