WORKING REMOTELY HAS seen many people cast a wider net when it comes to house hunting these days. And there’s no doubt that more space, no neighbours and a change of pace are all attractive reasons to head west.
Kate’s Country Cottage is a 200-year-old home that fits the bill perfectly if these reasons resonate with you. In Liscannor, Co Clare, this traditional two-bed offers sea views from the raised garden, plenty of parking and a great connection to the main road that brings you to the Cliffs of Moher and Lahinch.

Renovated and made comfortable with modern updates, it hasn’t lost its rural charm throughout. This is thanks to the Moher and Liscannor flagstone floors along with the stone interior, stove and open fire that all hark back to traditional Ireland.

But a move here doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck in the past. The interior is airy and modern in places, too. High ceilings and cosy soft furnishings ensure it. Upon entering the cottage, you are greeted with the main social space – a bright spacious kitchen. From here, you walk into the living room.

The bedrooms sit on either end of the cottage, giving privacy and space to each party. Both double, the larger of the two has an en suite bathroom. This does mean that the other bedroom will have main use of the family bathroom, however.

Before you worry about the lack of sea views, there are some. Heading to the back of the cottage, a stroll to the raised lawn offers super views of the Atlantic in the distance.

With a bit of imagination and, of course, money, the outhouses have lots of potential. They benefit from their own access via a gate at the side of the cottage. There’s a big Dutch barn with concrete block walls and two double doors and three smaller stores with stone walls and timber doors that could easily convert into more bedrooms or home offices ideal for keeping work life a little more separate.

There’s something special about the opportunity to live in one of the most picturesque areas in Ireland. Just 2.5 km sit the Cliffs of Moher, while the Burren is about 14 km. There’ll be no shortage of sporting activities on and off land to take up, while seaside walks, swims and regular visits to the towns’ quaint pubs and restaurants will all become part of daily life in the west of Ireland.

Kate’s Country Cottage, Ballysteen, Liscannor, Co Clare is on the market for €350,000 through Savills Country Agency.
