Hypothermic kayakers rescued from Lough Derg after 999 call

A call came into the Coast Guard at around 2.30pm.

TWO PEOPLE WERE rescued from Lough Derg today suffering from hypothermia after getting into trouble while out kayaking.

The Coast Guard received a call at around 2.30pm from a member of the public saying that someone was in the water near Holy Island in the lough.

When the Coast Guard arrived, they found two people in the water. The were recovered from the water but were hypothermic.

They were taken by helicopter to Limerick Hospital, landing there at 3.49pm.
