Kenny and Cameron did not discuss loan rate

Taoiseach stopped shy of asking for a reduction in the rate on Britain’s €3 billion contribution to Ireland’s bailout.

THE TAOISEACH Enda Kenny did not broach the topic of a reduction in Ireland’s loan rate during today’s meeting with David Cameron.

RTE News reports that Kenny said Ireland was grateful to receive the loan during his first meeting with the British Prime Minister. But he appears to have decided not to push his luck by asking for a better rate, adding that the bailout was “not discussed in detail”.

The Taoiseach said trade, social and business links as well as the Queen’s visit were all discussed at the 30 minute meeting.

He told his British counterpart that the vast majority of Irish people would welcome his country’s monarch, but warned that there might be a small measure of protest because the timing coincided with the anniversary of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.
