Man (48) dies in industrial accident in quarry

It was the first workplace accident of 2015.

A MAN HAS died in an industrial accident at a quarry in Kilkenny.

The man, aged 48, died at the quarry in Freshford today as a result of the accident. The incident occurred at 12.30pm, gardaí said.

The scene was persevered for a time, pending a technical examination. The deceased man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was then transferred to St Luke’s Hospital.

The Health and Safety Authority said it is aware of the man’s death and that it is unfortunately the first workplace fatality of the year.

The HSA is sending inspectors to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, as it took place in a workplace setting.
