Killarney crowned Ireland's tidiest town

The Co Kerry town has picked up two prizes for cleanliness in the past week.

KILLARNEY HAS TAKEN the prize in this year’s Tidy Towns competition – just one week after it picked up an award for the country’s cleanest town by a business group.

The award was announced at the Helix in Dublin City University this afternoon by Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan, TD.

The prize for tidiest village has gone to Emly in Co Tipperary, and Lismore in Waterford has been named the tidiest small town.

This is the 53rd year of the competition, which saw a record number of 821 entries.

There will be a special Nationwide report about today’s TidyTowns Ceremony on RTÉ 1 at 7pm this evening.
