A ZOMBIE-THEMED event in the United States has been the subject of a shooting.

One person was killed and four others injured in the attack in Florida yesterday evening.

The incident happened shortly before 12pm in the Fort Myers area at ‘ZombiCon’, an annual zombie-themed event.

CNN has reported that chaos broke out among those in attendance after the first gunshots were heard.

One man died at the scene while five other people suffered non-life threatening injuries.

It has been reported that the man killed was Expavious Tyrell Taylor, a 20-year-old who played football for a local junior college.

The organisers of the event, which had been expected to draw in around 20,000 costume wearing fans, said that they were “deeply saddened” by what had happened.

NBC News is reporting that the event has been running in the local area for almost a decade and had mostly been welcomed by residents and businesses.

The event had been set to officially end at 12pm, meaning that the streets were still populated by large crowds.

The News-Press is reporting that the crowd was ‘shoulder-to-shoulder’ when the attack broke out.
