Killer whale spotted off the coast of Kerry

The whale, known as John Coe, was spotted off Slea Head.

A KILLER WHALE has been spotted off the coast of Kerry.

The whale, known as John Coe, caused a flurry of phone calls reporting sightings to the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group.

Photographer Richard Creagh captured the whale from the Blasket Islands Eco Marine Tour on Monday.

IWDG reports that there had been no sightings of the whale in question in Irish waters since 2013.

He is described as “one of the best known killer whales in the British Isles” but there had been no sightings of John Coe in Irish waters since 2013.

He was first spotted off the Scottish Hebrides in 1983.

It comes as many humpback whales have also been spotted in Kerry over the past couple of months.

The IWDG have asked members of the public to keep an eye out for more sightings of John Coe.
