NEWGRANGE ISN’T JUST the name of an ancient monolith in Co Meath, as it turns out. It’s also the name of an enormous Dublin mansion that has just come on the market.

The five-bedroom home in Kilternan, on the Dublin-Wicklow border, was built 40 years ago, but it echoes period buildings quite closely, from its red brick exterior to its fireplaces, staircases and décor.

It’s not quite as imposing as a 5,000 year old passage tomb, of course, but it makes a solid effort.

The property isn’t just one (enormous) house – the buyer will also get ten acres of land, a gate lodge, and stables for the €2.35m price tag.

And if you’re looking for some career motivation or creative inspiration, you’re probably in the right place. According to The Irish Times, the former owner of this home was one Frank Johnson, an entrepreneur who owned the Smart Brothers clothing store chain.

Inside the home, the country-style kitchen features large windows with views of the gardens, as well as state-of-the-art appliances and plenty of dining space.

There’s also a fully glazed conservatory that has hosted weddings in the past thanks to its generous size. You can spot the nearby Wicklow Mountains from the windows here, too.

Of the five bedrooms, one is downstairs with the remainder upstairs, including the supersized master bedroom suite, complete with en-suite bathroom and mountain views.

The gate lodge has two bedrooms too – perfect for guests, or teenagers who want more of their own space.

Sitting on ten acres of land, there’s plenty of space for gardening and relaxing outside, and potential to develop this incredible expanse of land too, too. The property has four stables to the rear, built in the same redbrick as the main property and the gate lodge.

Kilternan, nestled on the border between Wicklow and Dublin, is on the rural side of things, but is serviced by a regular bus route into the city centre. Enniskerry and Powerscourt are nearby, as is Carrickmines, home to many shops and even a new IKEA.
