Labour narrows gap in latest Red C poll

Fine Gael retains its strong lead in the latest opinion polls, though Labour narrows the gap by five as Fianna Fáil stagnates.

LABOUR HAS NARROWED the gap between itself and Fine Gael at the top of the opinion polls by five points, according to the latest poll being published in today's Sunday Business Post.

The poll shows that while Fine Gael retains its spot at the country's most popular party, with just 20 days to go until polling day in the general election, its 35 per cent share of the vote is down by 2 per cent on the last Red C poll published on Wednesday, that time commissioned by Paddy Power.

Labour - which on Wednesday was only one point ahead of Fianna Fáil in second place - has itself gained three points, gaining ground on Fine Gael as it seeks to distance itself from Fianna Fáil back in third.

Fianna Fáil, which had the support of 18 per cent of voters in Wednesday's poll, drops one point to 17, while Sinn Féin consolidates its recent showings by gaining one point to 13.

The Greens lose a point to fall back to 2 per cent, while the share of the vote commanded by independents and others stands at 11 per cent, unchanged from Wednesday.

Fine Gael's margin over Labour seemed to have been further narrowed in Boards.ie's ongoing live poll, with Labour just under 5.5 per cent behind Fine Gael in second place.

That margin has widened in the past hours, however, with the margin sitting at less than 5 per cent this morning.

In the Boards.ie poll at present, however, Fianna Fáil's support is a measly 7.2 per cent - not nearly enough to guarantee a single seat in the next Dáil.
