Man arrested in connection with dissident republican murder released

Larry Keane, aged 56, was found seriously injured on Thursday 19 July. He was pronounced dead later in hospital.

A MAN WHO was arrested in connection with the murder of a dissident republican in Co Kildare earlier this month has been released from custody.

Gardaí investigating the murder of 56-year old Larry Keane said that they have released from custody a 47-year-old man. He had been detained at Kildare Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 since Thursday 25 July.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Larry Keane was found seriously injured close to his home at St John’s Lane in Athy, Co Kildare on 18 July this year.

A well-known dissident republican and a father of six, he was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination confirmed he died as a result of injuries sustained in an attack.

Information

Gardaí appealed to the public for information and in particular for anybody who saw or was in contact with Larry Keane on Thursday, 18 July to contact them.

Gardaí also wish to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of St John’s Lane between 11pm and 12 midnight on the night of the incident.
