16 of the best moments from the Late Late Toy Show

Evelyn Cusack = the hero the country needs right now.

WELL, THAT’S THE Toy Show over and done with for another year. Let’s recap.

The show was absolutely packed full of wonderful moments, but we’ve managed to select 16 of the very best.

1. Ryan Tubridy’s big song and dance in the opening number

The theme of the night was Beauty and the Beast, and the show kicked off with a 86 kid-strong rendition of Be Our Guest. Tubs played the part of Lumiére, and proved once again that he is an excellent sport. Bravo!

2. And little Chip, who stole the whole show

3. Toy tester Christopher’s admirable rendition of Chopsticks on the Big floor piano

https://vine.co/v/ia5wjEJWDBW

SKILLZ.

4. This little girl’s ‘lovely’ ‘song’

Toy tester Lara told Tubs she had a song for him, then proceeded to trill:

My Little Pony, My Little Pony / Went to the stable, to die on a table

…Dark. Lara then became the first child to attack Tubs with a toy, which surprised no one:

5. When Johnny met his hero, Evelyn Cusack

Johnny is a HUGE fan of the weather, particularly RTÉ meteorologist Evelyn Cusack. And it just so happens that Evelyn was hanging around the RTÉ studios tonight…
https://vine.co/v/ia5QJqgOlUj

Priceless.

6. This absolute raft of kids doing a mental trad/Little Mix/breakdancing mash up

If we had to estimate the number of kids on stage during this particular performance, we would have to say 1,000. Absolute carnage.

7. When the nation was told to “FEAR THE DEERE”

Michael the farmer from Tipp gave the country a new motto (and trending hashtag) in Fear The Deere. If we doubted that John Deere made the best tractors before, we certainly don’t now.

8. Fionn, and his impeccable rap game

https://vine.co/v/ia5lg1e6i1g

Fionn, also from Tipp and also a farmer, harbours aspirations to become a rapper. He dropped a FIRE rap then and there, charmed the country, and made us all want to buy his mixtape ASAP.

9. The kid who wore a suit of money, seemingly for no reason

moneykid RTÉ Player RTÉ Player

After quite some time, he explained he was dressed as Billionaire Boy (a character from one of David Walliams’ books), but people were extremely confused:

10. When Ryan and David Walliams very nearly shifted

Celeb guest David Walliams gamely played Pie Face with Tubridy, the two bumped cream-covered noses, and the Toy Show very briefly became PG-13.

11. When people weren’t sure if this little girl was saying “UP THE RA!” or “UP THE DUBS!”

We’re fairly confident, given the Dublin GAA strip and all, that she’s saying “UP THE DUBS!” But many, many people were given pause.

12. When we discovered that Ryan Tubridy LOVES bath bombs

bathbombs RTÉ Player RTÉ Player

We’re not sure if we’ll ever rid ourselves of the image of Tubs enthusiastically flinging home-made bath bombs into a plastic bowl, roaring “I LOVE BATH BOMBS!! IT’S LIKE A GIANT BEROCCA!”

Never let him into a Lush store.

13. Leah and Noah Kirwan’s beautiful duet

The brother-sister duo went viral earlier this year after Leah posted a video of them singing Noah’s favourite song, Titanium, on Facebook. Tonight, they took the duet to the Toy Show stage, and it was a truly special moment.

14. When Tubs asked a child if he liked “flutes and fizzle sticks”

Then made this face:

15. And then got the audience to chant “HAVE IT NOW” at a pregnant woman

You could say he was feeling giddy.

16. And this enthusiastic kid, who closed out the show with a huge fall

The swaying was a bit too much for him. And for us. What a night.

Suffering from that bug since early this morning and only now feel like I’m really not going to die. Feel very sorry for anyone already feeling poorly in hospital who gets it

As a rule, I never complain about people red thumbing comments, but if everyone who red thumbed comments like Michele’s clicked ‘Report this comment’ instead, spam would be a lot less prevalent on The Journal comment threads.

They’ll have to call it the all-year-round vomiting bug now.
That said I feel sorry for people who have it and those people who can’t make hopital visits or those who can’t receive them.

Schools, hospitals, hostels, aircraft. Anywhere that groups of people spend time together.
About 2 days to incubate, 2 days symptomatic, 2 days to clear the virus. Unfortunately people feel so wretched with it thy attend hospital, particularly if they vomit a little blood. The bug is spread by hand mouth and by aerosol and is horribly infectious. Hospital outbreaks make the news, but schools etc are fairly regularly closed by it.

    Someone should tell the HSE!

“A Contingency Management group are now requesting that self-referral patients in the border areas of West Sligo and East Mayo – who would normally attend the Emergency Department Sligo -could consider attending Mayo General Hospital.”
