I find funny that the same people who were complaining about governments not reacting enough when delta appeared are now blaming the governments for overreacting.

@ForrestG45: There seems to be a lot of mis-quoting of Dr Angelique Coetzee, the SA health official that first reported on this variant. Yes she has said that symptoms appear relatively mild, but this was in vaccinated individuals, she also mentioned that for unvaccinated people, especially younger people (under 40), that they are seeing a lot end up in hospital with it.
This is good news, as if they are seeing a mild sickness in vaccinated people it means the current vaccines offer a lot of protection against it.
As for the unvaccinated, well they have a personal choice they can make any day that might help.

@Franny Ando: to follow up your own link – she said specifically that “we have to worry” about older, unvaccinated people having a “severe [form of the] disease” which in my book means potentially ending up in hospital.

Dr Coetzee, who was briefing other African medical associations on Saturday, made clear her patients were all healthy and she was worried the new variant could still hit older people – with co-morbidities such as diabetes or heart disease – much harder.

“What we have to worry about now is that when older, unvaccinated people are infected with the new variant, and if they are not vaccinated, we are going to see many people with a severe [form of the] disease,” she said.

To be fare, she does say symptoms seem mild among the young healthy people she has seen. She mentions specifically older unvaccinated people but most of our older are vaccinated,

@Dennis hopper: Mostly because this strain is very new and there aren’t enough developed cases to be confident of that assessment yet. I really hope it is that weak but with 4 times the spread of delta it wants to be very weak indeed.

@TomTraubert: I don’t think bot is technically the correct term for a human trying to control a comment section or social media narrative, can’t remember the official term for it. Watch the dissident on Netflix, besides being a very good and interesting watch, it shows how government and anti government activists use “bots” to control social media narratives. David Jordan is a government version of it through and through. Eventually people will become more skilled at it and less transparent and these people will be harder to spot. The person behind the David Jordan profile has not reached this level yet though.

Considering now majority of cases in are in primary school bring Xmas school holidays forward. It’s not exactly going to seriously impinge on their education. Schoolwork can actually be done from home.

@Franny Ando: it’s a balance and weigh up between risk Vs impact. So the risk associated with schooling is acceptable because of the need for education. The additional risk associated with pantomimes is not worth it. Plus at school they are at least with the same kids. Going to pantomimes is adding even more contacts to the mix

I also see hurlers on the ditch who’d also be complaining no matter what they did or didn’t do…or maybe it was the way the did it?
This crowd will be gone soon enough…the next crowd will have the same amount of difficulty.
