'The sofa is my prized possession': Fashion buyer Laura shares her stylish living room

Laura Magee moved into her Belfast home a few months ago.

EACH WEEK, WE ask an Irish person with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Laura Magee moved into her Belfast period home with her husband in September after living and working in London as a fashion buyer.

Despite having lived in the house for just six months, Laura (@deco.dwelling) has already transformed her living room into picture-perfect condition. This week, style-savvy Laura chatted us through this space, which (understandably) is the area she loves the most.

What do you love most about this part of your home?

This part of the house is my favourite mainly because it’s centred around my statement green velvet sofa. I’ve wanted to have a dark interior living space for such a long time, and when we lived in London our house wasn’t large enough (in my opinion) for me to live out my dream.

After moving to Belfast with my husband, we fell in love with a period property and knocked down a dividing wall to open up the living area. With some paint and a little (a lot) of help from Pinterest and Instagram, my vision of a blue, green and pink living room was finally born!

Talk us through some of the objects in the photo.

The prints on my wall are from Juniqe and I fell in love with them as they were the perfect colour combination to go with my living room decor. The sheepskin is from Made.com. The sofa, the star of the show, is from Swoon Editions and is just my absolute prized possession, closely followed by my La Redoute rug.

What was your inspiration when you were putting the space together?

My inspiration definitely comes from images I see around me; on Instagram, Pinterest and image searches on Google. I love art deco interiors and fashion, so you will see a lot of brass and gold in my home and tonnes of decadent fabrics like velvet and faux fur.

How well does this photo reflect the rest of your home?

The rest of my home is currently half complete, mainly because we only moved in at the end of last year. So I still have my bathroom and attic bedroom, plus my kitchen, to redecorate. But for now, they are liveable and can wait!

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

If I’m being honest, I rearrange plants quite a bit, which really annoys my husband! Apart from that, I just ensure there is no leftover takeaway food from the night before lying about.

Do you have a spot in your home that you’re particularly proud of? Do you enjoy styling the different rooms in your house? Are you always adding and changing little things to make your space stand out? If so, we want to hear from you! Email amy@thejournal.ie with a few lines about yourself and your home for a chance to feature in My Home in One Photo.
